The years 1970 1982
Q: In 1970 you said goodbye to "De Contactcommissie"?
A: On February 24, 1970 to be exactly. Mr. Van Rietschoten (who was also a member of "De Jampot") said goodbye then as well so they lost two members on the same day.
Q: You were almost 63 years old at that time, no intention to go with the VUT (stopping with working earlier) then?
A: It looks funny now, but the VUT wasnt an option in 1970. I even made it to "Refrendaris-A" in April 1971 and on April 8 I became head of the first office of the first department.
Q: And in 1972 you stopped working?
A: No. I worked till February 7, 1973, because they couldnt find someone to put in my footsteps.
Q: Wow, that sounds or they really couldnt miss you at all.
A: I guess so. But on February 7, 1973 I said goodbye to everyone.
Q: Where there a lot of colleagues around?
A: I believe they came all! The whole building. And I saw some old colleagues and members of "De Jampot" too.My wife and daughter were there with me and we met so many people, that at the end of the evening the three of us had no hands left anymore. For my family and me it was a very emotional day, but a very happy day at the other hand. I remember, that it was really hard for my daughter to get "one hour free" from school for this special moment, but I really wanted to be her with me as well. So I said: "If you dont give her that hour, Ill tell you that shes sick". Unbelievable isnt it? On the other hand: I guess they never had a girl at school with a father that retired earlier. Let me tell you the things they wrote about the day in the "Vigilate" of March 1973:
On Wednesday February 7, 1973 we said goodbye to Mr. Stinis. There was a reception in the canteen downstairs of the "Provinciehuis". Mr. Stinis had worked here more then 43 years ago and started then as clerk and is now administrator. He received a royal distinction in 1969. Mr. Lodder, head of the first department, talked about Mr. Stinis other activities as well and he offered him two presents for example a computer for his hobby, making photographs. Mr. Van der Brugge talked about all the publications and so on Mr. Stinis wrote over the years. At least, it was Mr. Stinis himself who thanked everyone and after that, there was some time to say goodbye to Mr. Stinis in person.
Of course, I wrote a letter of thanks on behalf of my wife and daughter as well.

After my retirement I had the time to do things I hadnt had time for the last couple of years. We had been moved to a new home in April 1971 and I hardly had any time to put all the books etc. I collected over the years in their right position. And I finally had some times to spend with my daughter.
Q: Like doing what?
A: During her holidays we made some short and longer trips.
1974
In the neighborhood but we also visited some cities in Holland together. And in 1974 I celebrated my 25th Wedding Anniversary.
Q: Did you celebrate it with a big party?
A: Not really. The three of us went to a restaurant and had a nice and family dinner, but that was it. Very quiet and intimate, just the way we planed it.
Q: But I heard you couldnt retire that much couldnt you? Because after several years, your daughter went to the HAVO, you got involved with her school?
A: Thats correct. They asked for someone in "De Oudercommissie" with some time and well I had that time so ..
Q: And you have been there till .?
A: I guess, 1978. Then she did her exams for the third time and she left school and so I left " De Oudercommissie" too.
Q: And what did you do then?
A: Well, my life started to be very quiet then. I worked in our garden, read some books and that was another life as that I lived in the past.
Q: And your daughter also "worked" 6 weeks in the Provincial Library?
A: That was so funny. Not even for me, but for her as well. She did her term of probation there during the first year she was studing at the PATA (Library and Documentation Academy) here in Den Haag. She walked through the same doors as she walked so many years before when she was just a kid. She even met people who still worked at the library at the time I worked there. In 1980 and 1981 she also "worked" six weeks in a Public Library. First here in Den Haag and the second time in Rijswijk.
A: She was born on May 25, 1892. So she was 89 years old. Of course, I went to the funeral and spoke some words. It was a very sad day for me.
Q: I can imagine that. Did your wife and daughter come with you?
A: No, my daughter had to go to school that day and had a meeting with her colleagues of the Scoutinggroup "De Mohicanen" that same evening at our home which she couldnt cancel because it was one of the last meetings with preparations for the summercamp in July.
Q: Scoutinggroup? You never told me before that she was involved in Scouting!
A: Yes, she was a brownieleader at that time. Ask her about it, she can tell you a lot more about it! (Click here to read some stories about Jenneke JRs life at Scouting)
Q: Im sure there were some other "highlights" in 1981 and 1982?
A: I went to the Zaanse Schans twice in 1981. Once with some old colleagues of work and some weeks later with my daughter. The last time we took some wonderful pictures of all the houses there and they even made a photo of us. (Note: This photo is the last one that has ever been made of my father and me together so you can imagine that this is a very special photo for me).
Another highlight was the fact that my daughter became Librarian Assistent. In September 1981 she started a one year education as Bibliothecarian- Documentalist. I also made a trip back in the past in 1982 to visit and photograph some houses and places which have been very important for me in the past.
Q: Back to your roots?
A: Yeah, you can call it that way. It was great. Most of the houses I lived in changed over the years, but I still remembered them very well.
Note: It was the summer of 1982 when my father made this trip. He also went, together with some others, on a trip to Bobbejaanland in Belgium on June 6, 1982 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of RSV De Spartaan. On Thursday August 26, 1982 my father and I started a six days holiday to Copenhagen in Denmark, but during the first day of that trip, everything went wrong. Read more about this trip on the next page under the subject "The last two weeks".
